This is one speaker you don't want to miss.  Sherry Payne became a teen mom at the age of 15, and again at 17, yet she went on  not only to finish high school, but to go to college as well.  The hardships of single-parenthood  and another pregnancy, (a child she chose to place for adoption) kept her from completing her degree, but she never gave up hope of someday finishing college.  That day came, when after getting married and with her husband's support, she decided to go back and complete her degree.  Her experience of two homebirths and successful breastfeeding with her next two children convinced her that she wanted to get a degree in nursing.  After seven years in school (during which time she had three more children) Ms. Payne proudly realized her goal of helping other women have positive experiences with birth and lactation.  She received her BSN in nursing from Rockhurst University/ Research College of Nursing in Kansas City Missouri. Along the way, she became a certified childbirth educator,trained doula, and certified breastfeeding educator and professional speaker and trainer.  She has an inspiring message to share with audiences on the importance of successful lactation and normal birth and the impact these experiences have on the lives of women.   After seven years in labor and delivery nursing, she started her own speaking and consulting business in 2004.  She celebrated the success of her business in 2006 with the birth of her ninth and final (we think) child, her sixth, born at home.  She has sat bedside with women in birth in a variety of settings and worked alongside a variety of birth care providers .   She travels nationwide sharing her stories, and knowledge with other professional and lay audiences interested in knowing more about supporting and promoting successful lactation and normal birth.   She is the author of an upcoming book about birth.  She authors the blog, The LaborPayne Epistles, sharing her stories and insights about birth and lactation.   Ms. Payne resides in Overland Park Kansas with her husband and nine children, six of whom were homebirthed and breastfed.
